Everybody knows that Black Eyed Peas’ “My Humps” is a stupid song, but we’re not sure we quite grasped how stupid it was until we saw the recently unearthed video for Alanis Morissette’s cover version. The song features Kevin Smith’s vision of God wailing, Tori Amos-style, over a melancholy piano, and matched with the original version’s inane lyrics (and, really, we have to give credit to Fergie, here - “My Humps” was always bad, but stuff like, “What you gonna do with all that breast? All that breast inside your shirt?” actually sounded serviceable coming out of her mouth. Sung by Alanis at a much slower speed, the lyrics come off like something written by a particularly dirty-minded pre-schooler), it’s comedy gold. And then there’s the video, in which Alanis and what we can only call her posse bump and grind in extremely slow motion. We LOL’d.

Given that we’ve already seen this puppy pop up in the blog-o-tron, we’re betting this’ll be the most publicity Alanis has seen in years and, if there’s any justice, a concert staple. Could it be the first salvo in the buildup to a new album? We haven’t heard new material from Ms. Morissette since 2004; it could be about time. If nothing else, though, we have to give props to her sense of humor. Props, Alanis. Props.
